Since 1984, The Textile Institute- Sri Lanka section has been awarding medals for outstanding and successful Textile students of the Universities. The medals for 2008 were awarded at the AGM held on 12th September 2009. |

The award ceremony was compered by Miss Ruchini Jayasekara, a final year degree student of Brandix College of Clothing Technology, Ratmalana. |

Anura De Silva Gold Medal - |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
|
Mr. Anura De Silva who is presently living in the UK was one time a leading clothing technologist in
Sri Lanka. He worked as Vice President at Star Garments (pvt) Ltd. and GM at Winter Quilts Ltd.
He is a graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University in clothing studies. He was an active member of the Sri Lanka section of the Textile Institute and one time secretary and treasurer of the section.
Before he left for UK he decided to offer a medal for the best student of the Diploma program in Textile and Apparels of the Open University of Sri Lanka.

The citation of the winner was read by Dr. Anbahan Ariyadurai, head of the dept. of textiles and apparel technology of the Open University, Sri Lanka. The medal was awarded by Dr. Wasantha Wimalaweera, Professor of Textiles of the Open University of Sri Lanka. |

Ranjith Tennakoon Gold Medal - |

|
|
|
|
|
|
Mr.Ranjith Tennakoon studied at the University of Colombo and he is a chartered textile technologist and a Fellow of the Textile Institute. He joined the National Textile Corporation immediately after his university education. He also worked at Wellawatte Spinning & Weaving mills Ltd in the weaving section and later joined the Cassims International as a company director. He later became the Competent Authority of The National Textile Corporation and GOBU of Wellawatta Spinning and Weaving Mills. He was also the director of TT&SC and CITI. Having retired from the government service he joined as a director at Lanka Garments, Ratmalana. He is presently a consultant trainer in textiles and clothing. He was the secretary and chairman of the section. He was kind enough to offer a medal for the best NDT (Textiles) Student of the University of Moratuwa.
